The spending bill passed by the USA ‘s federal government in March promised funding to help fund Albuquerque’s electric bus rapid transit system. The hope is that Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART) will open fully sometime in winter. This bus rapid transit system has been in construction for about 2 years, and it opened partial service in late winter 2017.

The $75 million will be paid incrementally to help offset the $130 million total cost of the bus rapid transit project, which has already been paid. This means that new tax dollars might not have to be raised for this system to help pay that cost, and the city of Albuquerque can balance its budget better.
